Cold Weather Shipping Precautions

During winter months, we take extra steps to protect your live insects:

  • Heat packs included as needed
  • Insulated packaging
  • Heated delivery vans

Note: Beetles may arrive dormant due to cold exposure. This is a natural state and not a cause for concern.

How to Revive Dormant Beetles:

  1. Unpack all containers to allow airflow
  2. Keep them at room temperature (18°C–25°C / 64°F–77°F)
  3. Avoid direct heat or rapid warming
  4. Gently agitate bulk bags to spread the beetles
  5. Allow several hours for full recovery

Most beetles will revive if handled with care upon arrival.

Why Temperature and Humidity Matter

For successful mealworm beetle egg production and colony health, maintaining the right conditions is essential:

  • Ideal Temperature: 20–28°C (68–80°F)
  • Ideal Humidity: 50–70%

Improper conditions can slow growth, promote mold, or attract dust mites.

Can Chickens Eat Mealworm Beetles?

Yes! Many poultry owners integrate live mealworm beetles into their flock’s diet for added protein. Just ensure moderation and proper sourcing.

Boost your self-sufficiency and poultry health with high-yield, breeder-ready mealworm beetles from HatchingTime.

Moving well from day one

The container looked well supplied and included enough active insects to feed a few immediately while reserving the rest for the colony. That balance was exactly what was needed. The fresh beetles showed steady movement after a careful acclimation period. Mealworm beetles fit the situation surprisingly well.

Enough to split between two uses

The inner packaging kept the live insects contained and easy to inspect. It has become an occasional favorite here.

Healthy movement right away

A few insects looked quiet on arrival, but following the acclimation directions brought normal movement back. No external heat was needed. A repeat serving was an easy decision.

Enough for feeding and starting a breeding group

Fresh bedding and moisture were ready before pickup, so setup took only a few minutes. Activity increased through the afternoon as the shipment adjusted to room temperature. Another order would make sense when this runs out.

Moving well after acclimating

Separating the shipment across clean trays was uncomplicated. The insects moved into the bran quickly and were easy to monitor during the first day. The only real reservation was hold-for-pickup shipping being less convenient than home delivery.
